Lucy at 3 weeks

Lucy is starting to be so alert and she's great at making eye contact with people and colorful objects.  Now I understand why mom's like to post video's of their kids doing nothing :)  To me, Lucy is just so cute I had to post this!

Lucy's photo shoot

I'm thinking Lucy is going to have many, many pictures of her.  I just can't help taking them when she looks so cute, which is all the time!  Richard and I did a couple little photo shoots with her last week to capture her newborn cuteness.  Here are some of my favorites.

Lucy's first few weeks home

It's been such a new experience having a little baby with us at home now.  Her first week home, Richard didn't work much so we just focused on Lucy and trying to get some sort of routine down.  That all changed though when we went for a doctors visit and found out she had lost more weight and was at 5lbs 12oz.  We had to really focus the next few days on getting her to eat and I had to focus on getting this whole nursing thing down.  Our hard work was worth it and at her next visit, she was back up to 6lbs and at her two week appointment this past Friday she was above her birth weight.

My mom got here from Arizona a week ago and it has been great having her help.  We've been able to get a little more sleep in the morning when my mom will hold her for a little while.  We've also been getting meals from a group at our church every other day and that has been wonderful.  My mom leaves tomorrow and I'm sure it will take a few days to get into a new routine.

Lucy is such a good baby and is starting to show her personality a little more.  She really likes it when Richard sings to her and she likes to look around at everything when she is awake.

Delivery day

Lucy came 11 days early and we were pretty surprised.  The night I went into labor, I had no idea earlier that day of what was to come.  Throughout the last few months I had been getting braxton hicks contractions constantly and my doctor said those could potentially move my labor along faster than normal, I guess she was right!  I started getting stronger contractions at around 9:30pm on Thursday, December 29th and started timing them.  By around 1am I was pretty sure we were going into labor and my contractions were about 5-7 minutes apart.  I called my parents and woke them up and told them what was happening, and then Richard showered and packed and we headed to the hospital around 2:30am.

Once we got to the hospital, I was only 2.5cm dilated and they monitored the baby and my contractions for an hour or so.  We were ready to hear we were being sent home but when they checked me an hour later, I was already at 5cm so they started getting everything ready for us to check into a room and for me to get an epidural (which I was really ready for at this point!)  When we finally answered a million questions and were settled into a room around 6am, I got my epidural at 7cm and started feeling better.

Things just progressed from here.  They broke my water and I started pushing around 8:30am and Lucy arrived at 9:16am.  She was so beautiful and the whole experience was life changing.  The moment they placed her on me I was in love and Richard and I feel so blessed and thankful to have a healthy, beautiful and precious baby girl.

We stayed at the hospital for two nights, which was much needed.  It was actually kind of fun being there for New Years Eve.  We could hear people celebrating when they delivered before midnight :)  Here are some pictures from our stay.

Baby room

Here's our little girls room.  It's purple, of course, hopefully she likes it :)  We're only three weeks away from our due date and getting pretty excited (and a little nervous)!

I made the curtains, bed skirt, bumper, blanket and pillow out of this pretty dark purple fabric I found at JoAnn's

The frame above her bed will eventually have her name in it :)

We painted the dresser and shelf white to match her crib.

This beautiful rocking chair was a garage sale find!

She already has many bows and headbands :)

Thanksgiving 2011

Here's the one picture we took this Thanksgiving.  It was a nice and quiet time with the Doe family here in Washington.  I'm so thankful for the many things God has blessed us with this year, especially the little baby girl growing in my belly :)  I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving too.  Now time to get out the Christmas decorations!
