My latest project.
This past Monday, Richard and I went to downtown Vancouver to eat lunch. We ate some yummy pizza at the Vancouver Pizza Co. and then walked around an antique store across the street. The past few weeks I have been looking to buy a headboard for our bed, so I have been searching on craigslist and a few other places, and then I got the great idea of checking out a salvage yard for something that I could 'turn into' a headboard. So that's where Richard and I were headed after our lunch. We decided to drive through some of the old neighborhoods downtown so I could show him where I used to babysit and believe-it-or-not, there in someone's front yard was a really cool old door with a "free" sign on it. We didn't even have to go to the salvage yard!
I was very excited because an old door like that would be pretty expensive at an antique store. So we loaded it into my Suzuki and brought it home. The next day I worked on fixing up the door, I chipped of the old paint, sanded and cleaned it. It actually looked pretty cool as is. It's white and after I sanded it, some light green paint was showing through from being painted in the past. Then we brought it into our room and put it up behind our bed. Here is the finished result!
I was trying to figure out something to do with the door knob hole at the top and so I put a bow on it. I'm not sure if I like it or not so let me know what you think : )
So there is my latest project! It was a lot of fun : ) I love fixing up old furniture and changing it into something new, and it's even better if it doesn't cost any money!
